On Saturday, May 21st, our enlightened master, Sri Durgamayi Ma, will celebrate with us the Vesak festival in honour of Buddha’s birth. In a darshan Mataji gave in anticipation of the Vesak celebration 2007, Mataji speaks about the living Buddha and also about the book “Siddhartha” by Herman Hesse, about how it was a great inspiration for Mataji as it was for many other young people in the late sixties before Mataji travelled to India and encountered Baba.
“When he [Buddha] is looking for an employment he is asked what he can do. And he answers: ” I can fast and I can wait.” And I can still remember the first moment I read that, I just wanted to read over it as something you at least can’t earn money with in this world. But then I imagined what it would be like if I could do that: I could fast and I could wait. And that fascinated me in a very subtle way at the time, this idea of being able to wait, simply wait.”
